“Tough On Crime” District Attorney Rescinds Endorsement of DA Todd Spitzer Following Racist Statement Scandal
San Diego District Attorney Summer Stephan and Todd Spitzer proudly share a conservative worldview, a carefully cultivated “tough on crime” persona, and a deep desire to keep “Los Angeles” vibes out of their respective counties. But the duo differs on the finer points of Spitzer’s plan to import 1960s-era Alabama stereotypes into Southern California. Hence, today, DA Stephan, the top prosecutor in California’s second most populous county, has withdrawn her endorsement of Todd Spitzer amidst the growing scandal engulfing the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, OC Watch has learned per a spokesperson for District Attorney Stephan.
In case you are living under a rock and missed coverage from Politico, BuzzFeed, The Los Angeles Times, Voice of OC, New York Daily News, The Orange County Register, and multiple Southern California television news stations, Spitzer recently allegedly opined out of nowhere in the middle of a meeting over whether the office should seek to execute a Black man that “he knows many black people who get themselves out of their bad circumstances and bad situations by only dating ‘white women.’” He also said that while in college, he “knew for sure that this black student did so on purpose to get himself out of these bad circumstances and situations.” People who attended the meeting, as well as anyone who read the comments and has a pulse, have characterized these comments as “racist”. The scandal has also led to calls for Spitzer to resign.
