Conservative California Women’s Leadership Association Rescinds Endorsement Of Spitzer
The powerful California Women’s Leadership Association, a “free market” conservative political action committee founded by Senator Pat Bates and former Congresswoman Mimi Walters, has withdrawn its endorsement of Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer. Executive Director Dena Cruden confirmed the withdrawn endorsement to OC Watch on Monday evening.
The association continues to endorse Orange County Sheriff Don Barnes, as well as San Diego County District Attorney Summer Stephan, both of whom face elections later this year.
Stephan has also rescinded her endorsement of Spitzer. There are now five prominent organizations or elected officials that have pulled their support of Spitzer in light of a scandal that erupted out of a recent meeting discussing whether the office should seek to execute a Black man. During the meeting, Spitzer allegedly said that “he knows many black people who get themselves out of their bad circumstances and bad situations by only dating ‘white women.’” He also said that while in college, he “knew for sure that this black student did so on purpose to get himself out of these bad circumstances and situations.” People who attended the meeting, as well as anyone who read the comments and has a pulse, have characterized these comments as “racist”.
The current Spitzer retraction list includes:
San Diego County District Attorney Summer Stephan
Riverside County District Attorney Mike Hestrin
Alameda County District Attorney Nancy O’Malley
Amador County District Attorney Todd Riebe
California Women’s Leadership Association PAC
Additionally, both the California State Conference of the NAACP, and Orange County Democratic Party Chairwoman Ada Briceño, have called on Spitzer to resign.
